Rickey

Commercial Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Zena Rommett Floor-Barre™ Technique

Rickey Tripp is a choreographer, dance educator, movement coach, and certified Zena Rommett Floor-Barre™ Technique mentor. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from San Jose State University.

As a performer, Rickey’s Broadway credits include Hamilton: An American Musical, Motown: The Musical, and the original cast of the Tony Award-winning In the Heights. His Off-Broadway credits include In the Heights (Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance), and his TV/Film credits include appearances on the Tony Awards and the TV show SMASH. His other theater credits include Stagger Lee: A New Musical (DTC World Premiere), AIDA National Tour, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the world-famous Rockettes. Rickey has also been featured in concert work with Mark Stuart Dance Theatre.

As a director and choreographer, Rickey has worked on The Temptations Tribute. As a choreographer, he has worked on Hairspray at DTC-Winspear Opera House; on Dreamgirls, which received a DTC Irma P. Hall Black Theater Award for Best Choreography; and in film on It’s Quiet Uptown.

Rickey was also associate choreographer for Choir Boy (MTC Premiere-Broadway); Jesus Christ Superstar Live (NBC), which won a 2018 EMMY for Outstanding Variety Special (Live); Once on this Island (2018 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival) at Circle in the Square Theatre on Broadway; Cabin in the Sky at New York City Center Encores!; Encores! The Broadway Boys at The St. James Theatre. He was assistant choreographer for Dreamgirls at North Shore Music Theatre, FLY A New Musical (DTC World Premiere); A Winter’s Tale; and Fortress of Solitude: A New Musical. Additional choreography credits include: In the Heights, 9-5 The Musical, The Wiz Encore Presentation, Bring It On: A New Musical, SMASH, and A Wonderful World.

Rickey’s most recent work includes The Roll Call: The Roots to Strange Fruit, which earned an Emmy nomination in 2023, and the musical X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, which premiered at The Metropolitan Opera House in NYC in November 2023. He is currently the associate choreographer for Hell’s Kitchen on Broadway and the lead choreographer for What A Wonderful World on Broadway.

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Rickey is currently on faculty at Broadway Dance Center in NYC. Additionally, he has taught master classes and set choreography at the prestigious NYC Theatre Department. Rickey continues to be in demand as a choreographer, educator, and mentor, sharing his wealth of knowledge and expertise with dancers across the globe.

Rickey has been a guest artist with Immerse Artists Experience (IAX) since Season 2. He is always excited to share his expertise and experience with the dancers at Immerse Artists Experience.
